Archies director Zoya Akhtar has opened up about the portrayal of men in movies of the 80s and 90s. She discussed how men were portrayed poorly with “scenes of aggression” in her recent interview.

Zoya Akhtar is busy working on her next film The Archies. The film which is an adaptation of the popular comic book series of the same name stars Suhana Khan, DoT, Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Yuvraj Menda, Mihir Ahuja, and Vedang Raina in the lead roles. Speaking to The AU Times, the filmmaker said: “Representation is when your identity or personality is validated in any type of popular culture. It’s not just women; other communities, disabilities and even men are also often misrepresented.

She further said, “In the 80s and 90s, you never saw tenderness, you never saw consent. But we had scenes of aggression. It affects the psyche of a nation. You’ve seen women who weren’t allowed to express how they felt, and that definitely makes a difference, so how you represent is key, because people need to know they’re not alone .
