Gujarat Titans became the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) champions in emphatic fashion after beating Rajasthan Royals in the final on Sunday. GT captain Hardik Pandya returned with numbers of 3/17 as RR reached 130/9 in 20 overs. GT, which is one of two new franchises in the IPL, then hit the mark with 11 balls to spare. Hardik Pandya, who also scored 34 points, was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-around show. GT thus achieved the rare feat of winning the IPL in its first season.
Following the IPL triumph, the Gujarat Titans reacted to a special tweet from UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid with the caption ‘What they said…#CHAMP1ONS’. The number 1 indicated the first GT title.
Spanish football club Real Madrid’s tweet read: “WE DON’T PLAY FINALS, WE WILL WIN FINALS. #CHAMP14NS.”
Real Madrid won their 14th Champions League title on Saturday after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final.

In the IPL Finals, Gujarat’s much-loved bowling attack, led by skipper Hardik Pandya himself, limited a formidable Rajasthan Royals batting unit to a modest total after losing the draw to spell.
Then GT’s Shubman Gill and David Miller went undefeated in 45 and 32, respectively, to claim an emphatic victory for their team.
It should have been a comfortable chase, but Rajasthan went all out to make it an interesting finale. As they have shown all season, Gujarat remained calm in tight situations to complete the chase in 18.1 overs.
Promoted
Few gave Gujarat a chance in their debut season, especially after a mixed auction where they waited until the end to secure the services of wicketkeepers Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade.
It wasn’t a team dotted with star players, but Hardik impressed with his leadership and got the most out of his teammates.
