The group was in the United States to perform a series of concerts, including a concert alongside American singer Halsey at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
They are due to play at 4.45pm on the main stage of the Pyramid festival on Friday, leaving little time for them to make the 10am flight and complete the nearly three-hour drive to the Somerset festival.
But there may be hope for fans of the band who are hoping to see them perform after they posted a short video to their Instagram page Thursday night appearing to show them at a check-in counter at Los Angeles airport.
It came when 700 British Airways workers at the airport, mostly check-in staff, voted to strike this summer for pay cuts.
A spokesperson for American Airlines, which operates transatlantic flights alongside British Airways, said: “On June 22, American Airlines Flight 134 from LAX to LHR was cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. because we never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans.
“Those booked on yesterday’s flight received meal and hotel vouchers, and were accommodated on alternate flights.”
