Vikram: Kamal Haasan starrer ends theatrical run, records ‘highest footsteps’ in 100 years of Tamil cinema


Kamal Hassan’s action thriller Vikram completed 113 days of theatrical run and became the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in Tamil Nadu. Vikram, directed by Lokesh, was released in theaters on June 3 and opened to a positive response from the masses and critics.

According to the The AU Times report, Vikram registered a record number of visitors and earned more than Rs 500 crores worldwide. Vikram has already dethroned SS Rajamouli’s mega-hit Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, securing the top spot in Tamil Nadu’s highest-grossing film. Vikram also played Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil in the lead role.

Even trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted about Vikram’s milestone, writing: “Kamal Haasan’s massive INDUSTRY HIT #Vikram ends today its theatrical run in TN at Coimbatore KG Cinemas (113 days). The film has set the ALL TIME record for: Highest Gross Highest Share & Highest Visitor Numbers in 100 Years of Tamil Cinema.(TN).”

Earlier this month, Kamal Haasan and Vijay Sethupathi celebrated the 100-day film release. The stars shared the milestone on their respective Twitter handles. Vijay shared two new movie posters on his Twitter, writing: “#Vikram Roaring into 100th day. #100DaysofVikram #Ulaganayagan #KamalHaasan #VikramRoaringSuccess.”

Ulagaya Nayankan Kamal Haasan also commented on Vikram’s super success, posting audio acknowledging the love of the audience, stating, “I’m delighted to be able to connect with the younger generation through Vikram. My thanks to everyone who has made Vikram a huge good luck. Congratulations to my younger brother Dir Lokesh.”

The film was released theatrically with Adivi Sesh’s Major and Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj. Vikram has launched the Lokesh Cinematic Universe, which includes directorial 2019 action drama Kaithi. Vikram will be followed by a sequel with an expanded role of Suriya.
