US sends Ukraine another $450 million worth of weapons, including rocket systems

The latest US contribution to Ukraine’s military so far will be $6.1 billion, the White House said.

The United States is sending a new batch of military assistance to Ukraine, the White House announced Thursday, with the shipment of $450 million including more rocket systems for use against invading Russian forces.

“This package contains weapons and equipment, including new high-mobility artillery rocket systems,” White House spokesman John Kirby said. Also included are tens of thousands of artillery and patrol rounds.

Rocket systems known as HIMARS top Ukraine’s wish list as the pro-Western country battles an invading Russian force advancing in the country’s east with the help of a significant advantage in heavy artillery.

The first four units of the rocket system have already been delivered, kicking off the training program needed for Ukrainian soldiers to operate the sophisticated and highly accurate weaponry.
