Nottingham Forest expect Tottenham to offer the fiercest competition for Djed Spence this summer after he helped secure promotion to the Premier League.
Spurs are set to step up their bid to land Spence in a £15million deal from parent club Middlesbrough once they finalize the arrival of Ivan Perisic as as a free agent after the end of his contract at Inter Milan.
Forest are keen to turn Spence’s loan into a permanent deal after his successful year in the Championship that ended with play-off glory at Wembley, but they are bracing for other clubs to enter the race for the player. 21 years after its campaign in the second floor.
They will hope the prospect of regular playing time next season in the Premier League will outweigh being a squad player at a Champions League club.
Spence has attracted interest from Premier League clubs looking for one of the most promising homegrown talents on the market, and he has also been followed by Bundesliga sides.
Spurs will be firmly in the hunt for the former Fulham Academy player, who moved to Boro in 2018 before breaking into the first team. Antonio Conte is looking to strengthen his squad for the Champions League and while Perisic is adding experience, Spence is seen as a player with huge potential in the Italian winger system.
Conte has Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty at right-backs, but Spence is seen as a prospect who would add to Spurs’ squad. He started playing regularly in the Championship three seasons ago for Boro and last summer was loaned out to Forest, where Steve Cooper helped him develop.
Spurs were considering a deal for Spence in the January window, but a deal with Boro was not reached and sporting director Fabio Paratici has strengthened in other areas.
