With the Philadelphia 76ers trying to make sure they’re draft and free agency ready, an interesting name may have popped up on their radar as they look to build around Joel. Embid and James Harden.
Kyrie Irving has a player option with the Brooklyn Nets for the 2022-23 season and he and the Nets are struggling to agree on an extension that would keep him in Brooklyn with Kevin Durant as they move forward in their title quest. .
The Nets are, understandably, concerned about Irving’s availability after he was largely absent in the 2021-22 season due to his refusal to cooperate with New York’s vaccination mandate. Eventually that went away, but in three seasons in Brooklyn, Irving played a grand total of 103 games. This is a big concern despite his immense talent.
If Irving and the Nets can’t come to an agreement and he leaves Brooklyn, there are several teams Irving wants to join. The Sixers, who have his former teammate in Harden, are one of those teams.
On the other hand, Irving isn’t necessarily a priority for Philadelphia.
It would be something worth watching. Irving is one of the league’s elite talents despite his obvious penchant for missing a lot of games. The Sixers have been known to want to seek a third star to join Embiid and Harden, so maybe Irving could be that guy.
