Witold Pilecki was a Polish resistance fighter who volunteered to go to Auschwitz, from where he sent secret messages to warn the world of the true nature of Nazi Germany’s largest concentration camp. After the war, Pilecki was tried and executed. For years he was portrayed as a traitor and an enemy of the Polish state. Our guest Perspective has written a book about his incredible story. Jack Fairweather is the award-winning author of “The Volunteer: One Man, an Underground Army, and the Secret Mission to Destroy Auschwitz”. He told us about the parallels between Pilecki’s legacy and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
