Oklahoma’s Chris Gotterup wins 2022 Haskins Award as Player of the Year in Men’s College Golf

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — When Chris Gotterup was traded from Rutgers to Oklahoma late last season, he wasn’t guaranteed a roster spot for the Sooners, who had just finished second to Pepperdine at the national championship.

So, the native of Little Silver, New Jersey, did what he bet: got to work. And he kept working and improving throughout the season. His coaches noticed him, his teammates noticed him and his peers noticed him too. Although he only completed one shot in the playoffs for the individual title during this year’s NCAA split. In the men’s golf championship, Gotterup had done enough to impress voters and win the 2022 Haskins Award, given annually to the player of the year in men’s college golf.

In 12 starts this season, Gotterup has won two East Lake Cup and Puerto Rico Classic wins and finished in the top five in six events, including a second place finish at the Big 12 Championship and T-5 at the NCAA Championship.
