One person was arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting on the New Orleans college campus that left an elderly woman dead and two men injured, police say.
The shooting happened in a parking lot outside the Convocation Center at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans.

The Convocation Center was used for a graduation ceremony for Morris Jeff High School, New Orleans. Police said an argument after the ceremony escalated into gunfire. Police described the incident as battery aggravated gunshot.
“This unfortunate incident did not have to happen,” the NOPD Deputy Superintendent said. said Christopher Goodly. “We are asking anyone with information to help us resolve this issue early on.”

Goodly told reporters he did not know if the people who fought in the parking lot were the ones who fired guns, or how many guns or bullets were fired.

The identity of the injured has not been released. Police said their injuries were not considered life threatening. It wasn’t immediately clear if they were related to those at the graduation ceremony.
