Moscow-occupied regions of Ukraine vote in referendum to join Russia

Residents of the Moscow-administered regions of Ukraine have started voting in referendums on whether or not to join Russia.

According to Russian-backed officials in regions including Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhya, the vote will continue until next Tuesday, September 27.

The referenda have been widely denounced by Ukraine and the West as a step towards Russia’s annexation of the territories.

Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has said the UK will never accept the outcome of what he called the “fake elections”.
