A lucky couple who won £105million in the National Lottery didn’t let their heads down and bought just a few used cars and a house.
Steve Thomson, a former white van nicknamed “Mr Sensible” by his friends, won his life-changing amount in 2019, but he and his wife Lenka were frugal with their winnings.
The Sun reports that shortly after their bargain, the pair modestly splashed out a Volvo XC90 and a used pickup truck for Steve.
He also placed “tens of millions” in a trust with the Queen’s bank invested in property, stocks and shares.
It is believed the £30million investment with Coutts & Co could net the pair an additional £90million in the future.
Of course, the couple had fun with their winnings.
At the time of the win, the couple were living in a £150,000 three-bed terraced house with their three children.
It took Steve over a year to get started on a new £4.5million property in Kent.
They moved to the sprawling estate in April, with tennis courts, a swimming pool, lakes, stables and landscaped gardens within the 14.5 acres.
The 7,000 square foot farmhouse also includes two kitchens, six bedrooms and five reception rooms and Steve said he intends to do the DIY himself on site.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: ‘The kids finally have their own bedroom. It’s a simple thing but that’s all they ever wanted.
“I still haven’t gotten over what happened to us and honestly, I’m still trying to process it. It’s like we were yesterday in our old lives – it will take a bit of time to adjust.
“We’re very lucky to be here, but there’s a lot of work to do, so I’ll focus on that for now.”
