Authorities are investigating the drowning death of a four-year-old child on Monday.
The child was pulled from a swimming pool on Prescott Street in Brookline shortly before 5 p.m.
Officials say the child was one of many in the pool at the time of the drowning and that several adults were “in the immediate vicinity”.
“An adult at the scene of the residence began performing CPR on the child under the direction of our dispatcher, and rescue efforts continued as emergency personnel arrived,” according to a statement released by the Brookline Police Department.
The child was taken to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he later died, officials said.
“At this time, this matter appears to be an unfortunate accident, but is still under investigation,” Brookline Police said.
In addition to Brookline Police, the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police are also investigating.
