UTICA, Ill. (TAUT) – A fire destroyed several cabins at the Grand Bear Resort in Starved Rock southwest of Chicago on Monday afternoon.
The popular resort town is located about 95 miles southwest of Chicago in Utica.
Five or six luxury cabins – each measuring around 2,500 square feet – caught fire.

The fire was so intense it was visible in satellite images.
The Grand Bear Resort said in a Facebook post that the fire broke out in “a handful” of cabin and villa buildings and everyone was safely evacuated. The Grand Bear lodge and water park were not damaged, nor were the majority of cabins and villas, the resort said.
It was not the first time that the firefighters intervened in the station. On January 2, 2018, there was another massive fire response at the same resort, then known as Grizzly Jack’s Grand Bear Resort.
The owners spent years renovating after the fire.
