European companies in China: the glory of the old days has faded
The mood among European companies in China has never been as pessimistic as it is these days. This has mainly to do with the increasingly ideologically motivated “zero Covid” strategy.
Jörg Wuttke has been living in China for over 30 years, but the German business representative has never sounded as pessimistic as he does these days. “China is losing the appeal it used to have,” says Wuttke, who heads the European Chamber of Commerce as President: “I’ve never seen ideological decisions become more important than economic decisions.”
