CWG 2022: Deepak Punia beats its Pakistani counterpart in the 86kd category and takes gold medal


Indian grappler Deepak Punia won the gold medal in the Men’s Freestyle 86 kg category in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games. He defeated Pakistani Muhammad Inam at Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B on Friday. Punia won the gold medal match with 3 -0. Punia won India’s third wrestling gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Indian grappler took a 2-0 lead in the first period and all the pressure was on the Punia’s opponent who went into the final three minutes. Punia was in good form in this match. In the final three minutes, he managed to hold his own and hold off his opponent to walk away with the gold.

The Pakistani wrestler struggled to make his way through Punia’s strong defense and went home without scoring a point. Previously, Indian star wrestler Bajrang Punia won a gold medal for India after winning the final against Canadian Lachlan Mcneil in the men’s 65 kg.
