Chicago CTA Red Line shooting leaves a man dead on the south side of town

A 29-year-old man was shot and killed early Saturday morning on a CTA Red Line train on the south side of town.

Chicago police say the shooting happened at 3:22 a.m. at the 79th Street Red Line station

An unknown man fired shots during the incident, police said.

The 29-year-old man was transported to the University of Chicago hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The man had gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen.

The transportation system will reinstate dog security units on CTA trains in the coming weeks to stem the increase in violent crime.

Chicago police are investigating the incident but say no one has been arrested.

CTA released a statement saying it would assist Chicago police in their investigation, TAUT 32 said.

“This is a senseless act of violence and CTA is assisting the Chicago Police Department in investigating this incident, including providing relevant video footage from our security camera system.”

In a press conference following the incident, CTA President Dorval Carter said dog units will return to the trains as part of an unarmed security force, according to TAUT 32.

In addition, Chicago Police Department Superintendent David Brown said more police officers will be assigned to trains within the CTA system starting Saturday.
