The Interior Ministry warns that if funding is not met, there could be staff cuts in the police force.
The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Finance speak on several pages about budget increases to secure police operations.
The Ministry of Finance is this week in the midst of budget proposals for fiscal year 2023.
The Ministry of Finance proposed on Thursday to increase the coverage of the police by 17.5 million euros next year. The Ministry of the Interior, on the other hand, proposes an increase of 42 million euros.
Negotiation Officer Antti Karila of the Ministry of the Interior first told STT news agency that if funding for the police remains so low in the budget, it would lead to staff cuts in the police force.
He later indicated that the Ministry of the Interior will indeed receive the 17.5 million euros it needs for police costs, but needs extra funding for ICT and real estate costs.
Karila added that he fears the funding gap could be reflected in the use of police personnel.
