Virat Kohli has had a tough time lately as a hitter. He hasn’t scored an international century since November 2019 and struggled to get into the IPL 2022. The former captain of the Indian cricket team failed to live up to expectations in the Premier Indian League (IPL) 2022. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli scored 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.73. He scored two half centuries, but failed to take his team to the IPL finals. Although there have been mixed reactions to Kohli’s drought, several former cricketers have criticized him harshly after his recent string of poor scores.
However, former Pakistani great Shoaib Akhtar came out in favor of Kohli.
“You say good things about Virat Kohli. Respect him. Why don’t you respect Virat Kohli? As a Pakistani I say he is the greatest player ever. I can bet that it will score 110 centuries,” Akhtar said in an interview with Sportskeeda Cricket.
Then in a direct message to Kohli, Akhtar said: “Have no fear and you must play till 45. The current situation is setting you up to reach 110 centuries. People write you off, they tweet against you. You post a post on Diwali you get slammed They tweet about your wife your child Nothing can be worse than this Nature prepares you to score 110 tons So keep my words in mind and start you manage from today.”
Kohli had hit a purple spot between 2015 and 2019, amassing centuries at will across all formats and also guiding the team to greater heights.
But things haven’t gone away since the pandemic began and Indian cricket fans are hoping Akhtar’s words will inspire Kohli to do his best again.
