Apple plans to roll out new SMS for iPhone users in India. According to a TechCrunch report, Indian Apple iPhone users may soon categorize non-personal messages into 12 subcategories within the existing “Transactions” and “Promotions” categories. According to the report, the subcategories of the Transactions section include – Finance, Reminders, Orders, Health, Utilities, Weather, Carrier, Rewards and Others. As for the Promotions section, it includes deals, coupons, and others. The new SMS filter extensions were spotted in the second developer beta for iOS 16 which was recently rolled out by the tech giant.
Apple revealed how developers can incorporate the new categories into SMS filters at the annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) event. The report suggests that the new subcategories for non-personal messages could likely be limited to Indian users. TechCrunch has contacted Apple to clarify the availability of the new subcategories, but the publisher has yet to respond.
Apart from this, Apple iPhone users in India will also be able to use pull-out events like movie ticket or train seat reservation like Siri suggestions in chat threads with inbox of the calendar.
As for US-based users, the report suggests that Apple iPhone users with iOS 16 will benefit from a new “Report Spam” feature in the Unknown Senders category of the Messages app. This feature will allow users to report spam to their carriers. But according to the release notes for iOS 16 beta 2, the feature is only available with certain carriers and there is currently no information on which carriers will support this feature.
