Six people were killed in a helicopter crash Wednesday night in Logan County, West Virginia, according to the deputy director of the county’s office of emergency management.
The helicopter crashed on Route 17 near Blair Mountain, assistant manager Sonya Porter said. The mountainous area in the southern part of the state is known as Kelly Hollow.
Mrs. Porter was unsure what could have caused the accident.
“At the time the accident happened, I think the weather was clear,” she said.
The plane was a Bell UH-1B helicopter, said the Federal Aviation Administration, which along with the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
The Logan County Commission expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims on local television.
“Our prayers are with them,” said County Commissioner Diana Barnette.
This is a developing story.
